Lambo's in Print - October 2009 to February 2010 Print E-mail

Smokin' Hot Lambos was the lead headline on the cover of Road & Track's November 2009 edition followed by "We test 4 of The Best Lamborghinis Ever!!". As if that wasn't enough, the four cars tested were:

1. Gallardo Balboni "Rear-Drive Rocket!",
2. Murciélago SV: "Better than a Bugatti?",
3. Gallardo Spyder: "Top-Down Fun!: and
4. Murciélago Roadster: "12-Cylinder Magic". Wow! What an issue.

Also in the exciting line-up of Lamborghini coverage was the Octane November 2009 issue shown below. "Lamborghini vs Ferrari-Clash of the Titans" was the catch cry.

Not far behind them was Auto Italia's Issue 163-7 October to 3 November with a beautiful Valentino Balboni on the cover. "Test Flight-We Drive the Very Best Handling Lamborghini Ever!" was the headline.

The December 2009 issue of Thoroughbred & Classic Cars had an excellent article on affordable supercars that included a Lamborghini Urraco in its line-up. There was also a great article on Gian Paulo Dallara with his key comment being "Every day we were learning, mostly at Lamborghini's expense". Interesting! Dallara had a key role in creating both the Miura and the Espada.

Other magazines to feature Lamborghini were :

  • Classic & Sports Car January 2010-Diablo
  • Classic & Sports Car February 2010-Silhouette vs Jalpa
  • Thoroughbred & Classic Cars January 2010-Marzal Concept
  • Thoroughbred & Classic Cars February 2010-Miura
  • Top 50 Cars of the 1960's (A Classic Cars Special)-Miura
  • Auto Italia Issue 162 9 September-6 October-Jalpa and Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder plus a full page on the Lambo Extravaganza.
  • Octane December 2009- The Greatest Cars 1900-2010 which includes the Miura, Countach and Diablo. There is also an article on Valentino Balboni.
  • Classics in Camera (an Octane Special) - which includes the Jota, Gallardo, Countach and Murciélago.

Lambos Light Up Melbourne Print E-mail

Lamborghini Extravaganza

Melbourne 17th - 19th April 2009

PeoplesChoice

Wow what an event! Lambo fever hit Melbourne and the bulls came from far and wide for a long weekend of social gatherings, a drive day and formal display.

Over the two days we had well over one hundred people and fifty different cars attend the event.

Friday nights welcome dinner for interstate visitors was planned to be a quiet night, however, the locals came out in force to welcome us all to Melbourne. The scene was set and expectations were high!

Early Saturday morning we met at Lamborghini Melbourne where Andrew Smith and his team hosted the group for a morning tea. It was great to see a number of older cars proudly sharing pride of place with the new Murcielagos and Gallardos in the Chapel Street showroom. A rare Diablo GTR race car was being prepared to ship to its new owner in Japan and sat alongside a Miura and a Countach. Downstairs a Countach was under repair and a 400 GT 2+2 was being made ready for tomorrow's display. After a guided tour and factory update the convoy was off!

Some thirty cars attended the drive down to the Mornington Peninsula, including a visit to see Rusty French's magnificent car collection and then on to lunch at the Sorrento Sailing Club. The weather held and a memorable day was enjoyed by all.

The day was capped off by a wonderful dinner at Santino's Restaurant on Lygon Street in Carlton.

Sunday was a blast! We started with about 40 cars meeting down at pit lane at Albert Park on the start finish line for the Australian Grand Prix. What an amazing sight! The cars then convoyed up through the Melbourne CBD and on to Docklands. We had 46 cars on display and a 47th in the car park! We believe this was the largest gathering of the marque ever assembled in the southern hemisphere and by anyone's standards this was a world class event.

The Lamborghinis on display included:

- 2x 400 GT 2+2 (the first two Lambos brought into Australia!)

- 4x Miura

- 2x Jarama

- 4x Espada

- 4x Countach

- 7x Urraco

- 1x Silhouette

- 1x Jalpa

- 6x Diablo (including a racing Diablo SVR)

- 7x Murcielago

- 8x Gallardo

The people's choice for the most popular Lamborghini went to the red Lamborghini Countach QV (shown above). This particular car travelled from Wollongong in NSW.

The best post 1990 Lamborghini went to the silver Diablo SV.

The best pre 1990 Lamborghini was the yellow Urraco P300.

By late afternoon the cars departed and a small group reminisced about a great weekend over more fine food and a few glasses of vino.

Salute Lamborghini!
